He later retired to Greenville and moved to the Cliffs on Glassy Mountain where he serves on the Board of Directors of Blue Ridge Rural Water Company. He traveled extensively to foreign countries implementing his designs. After completing his military experience, he began his civilian career as a design engineer working for various companies in the United States.

He entered the US Army where he specialized in military mobile equipment. Because of outstanding performance, he was inducted into the Society of Automotive Engineers. Jack DePriester attended and graduated from Michigan State University where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
